“Kora™ was born out of a passion for the mountains and its people. On our own travels, we identified properties in yak wool that make it highly suitable for use in next-to-skin active-wear for outdoor environments. Following a rigorous programme of laboratory testing and long-term wear trials, kora™ has developed a unique, natural, pure, high-performance fabric – we call it Hima-Layer™.”
While Kora owner, Michael, was exploring the Eastern Himalayas, he observed a herd of yak untampered by the crippling cold of the environment. From this observation arose the idea to also protect himself from the cold with the same soft wool that was insulating these yak. Michael then developed yak wool into the ultimate performance fabric that could be relied on by explorers and athletes conquering extreme conditions. With a mission to support positive change among Himalayan communities, Kora teamed up with Kegawa Herders’ Cooperative, purchasing all wool at a premium over the market price. Kora helps the people of these communities adapt to change while also maintaining their culture, knowledge, and traditions. From Holocene vests to Esker hats, each article you purchase helps not only to ensure your warmth but also to support nomadic herders of the Himalayas.
