What’s your story?
One night, after a few beers and joints with the boys, someone came up with the idea of making a shoe for smoking. It was a 5-in-morning-kind-of-idea, or maybe not. I decided to give it a shot. I went on and asked the most unlikely person for help: Otilia, my grandmother, with over 50 years’ experience in textiles. Together, we spent over 1 year actively working with suppliers from around the world until what is now the World’s 1st waterproof hemp shoe, a whole new category into casual sustainable footwear.
What’s your “why”?
It started as a joke. But when we quickly knew that we had to make something sustainable, practical, and very durable. Something we could use day in and day out, when traveling and working. Hemp and its amazing features were the spark to our fire. Our goal is to make hemp great again.
Why does sustainability matter?
The first reason is because that is the lifestyle of the founders. Second, because it wouldn’t make sense to make it otherwise. We have to think sustainable from the early steps of ideation these days. For us, that means going as natural as possible. Vegan and offsetting the CO2 we generated with our own production and shipment.
Do you contribute to your local community?
During Covid-19, we have donated over 10,000 masks to firefighters, police officers, and others people in need. In 2020, we donated 30 pairs to City Rescue Mission, an NGO that provides food and clothing to the local homeless.
Advice to other entrepreneurs starting out?
I think that is my key advice. Things will go terribly wrong before they go well.
