What’s your story?
Hello, we’re Jesse and Son, Co-founders of Rens Original and creators of the world’s first sneakers made from coffee. We are coffee-lovers and sneaker addicts who knew that our passions could be combined to create new experiences from recycled materials.
What’s your “why”?
Our story starts, coincidently, in a coffee shop. We were chatting about how most of our favorite sneakers are so bad for the environment and wondering why so many sustainable sneakers were so boring. The idea was obvious: let’s do it ourselves.
Since then, we’ve surrounded ourselves with like-minded misfits to create sustainable fashion that is anything but boring.
Our “why” is simple: make bold, stylish, and versatile sneakers made from sustainable materials.
How did you get funding?
We launched on Kickstarter in the summer of 2019 and hit our funding goal in 24 hours. Thousands of people from all over the globe shared our dream and helped to make it a reality. We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for them.
What’s your flagship product?
Rens begins with the original coffee sneaker. Made from used coffee grounds and recycled plastic, the coffee sneaker is designed to travel with comfort and a conscience. 100% waterproof and eco-friendly, this sneaker is the perfect companion for travelers, explorers, or anyone who makes every step a discovery.
Who’s your ideal customer?
We make bold sneakers for bold humans. For explorers who dare to step beyond the bounds of the familiar. Who tread lightly on the earth and make big strides in the streets.
For people who make every step a discovery. If that sounds like you: Welcome to Rens.
Why does sustainability matter?
Sustainability isn’t just important, it’s mandatory. We are in a climate crisis and the fashion industry is its second-largest contributor. Until the day that we can break the laws of physics and make something from nothing, we must choose progress.
We created Rens to show that being kind to the environment is not a compromise. Utilizing eco-friendly materials is more than just a selling point, it is the source of all of our features.
We are driven to create sneakers that aren’t just built for sustainability. They are built by it.
Do you contribute to your local community?
Our values don’t end at sneakers. Along with creating sustainable styles for all we also have a strong social streek. Since our launch partnered with numerous organizations such as The Trevor Project, True Colors United, Red Cross, Like-Minded Females Network, The Transgender Law Center, and any more.
We’re here to make shoes for a changing world—and for the generation changing it.
