What’s your story?
Zeal Optics was founded in 1997 by Michael and Wink Jackson, two professional mountain bikers and skiers who couldn’t find quality optics to meet their needs. These visionaries developed groundbreaking technologies for both sunglasses and goggles. Shortly after launch, they moved the company to Boulder, CO, where it’s still headquartered, and sold the brand to Maui Jim in 2010.
What’s your “why”?
Zeal Optics was founded and existed to provide outstanding solutions to protect your eyes, help you see the world around you for any activity and to protect the environment. We continue to push the envelope of what a product and company can be on a daily basis and hope you’ll see life #ThroughOurLenses.
What’s your flagship product?
Zeal’s community is made up of “outdoor generalists” – people that live for life outdoors and are constantly searching for new adventures and ways to enjoy the world’s wild places. All of our products are designed to perform in nearly all conditions. Our marquee products include our patented combination of premium polarized and photochromic technologies. This is available in Auto Sun for sunglasses and Automatic+ for goggles. We’re perhaps best known for our use of plant-based materials in all of our sunglasses, and an increasing number of our goggle components.
Who’s your ideal customer?
Anyone that lives for life outdoors, that yearns to explore and never compromises in the quality of the gear they use and its impact on the environment.
Why does sustainability matter?
As an outdoor brand that employs outdoor enthusiasts, it is our duty to protect the places that serve as our inspiration and R&D lab. At Zeal, our guiding principles are Use Less, Give Back & Explore More and we live these every day!
Do you contribute to your local community?
This is a fundamental part of our mission and we’re proud members of 1% for the Planet, donating 1% of our gross sales to environmental organizations. Some of our strongest partnerships are with the National Forest Foundation, Plastic Oceans International, SOS Outreach, Protect Our Winter and dZi Foundation to name a few.
