BCI Cotton

Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) cotton is a more sustainable alternative to conventional cotton. Here’s what makes it special:

Recycled Polyester

Recycled polyester, often referred to as rPET, is a sustainable alternative to virgin polyester. Here’s what you need to know:

1. Production Process:
   
   • Typically made from post-consumer PET plastic bottles
   • Bottles are cleaned, shredded into flakes, and then melted into new polyester fiber
2. Environmental Benefits:
   
   • Reduces plastic waste in landfills and oceans
   • Requires about 59% less energy to produce compared to virgin polyester
   • Lowers CO2 emissions by up to 32% compared to regular polyester
3. Performance:
   
   • Similar durability and performance characteristics to virgin polyester
   • Can be recycled multiple times without significant quality loss
4. Versatility:
   
   • Used in various products including clothing, shoes, bags, and accessories
   • Can be blended with other fibers for different textures and properties
5. Challenges:
   
   • May release microfibers during washing, contributing to microplastic pollution
   • Recycling process can be complex and energy-intensive

By using these materials, Printify and Adidas are making significant strides in reducing their environmental impact while maintaining product quality and performance.
